Good Morning Sweet Town! 52Cakes is honored to announce that this week's cake will be supporting Folkmoot USA! This week's cake is a fall inspired German Chocolate Cake! All that chocolatey goodness in the inside, and vanilla buttercream on the outside. The cake is an 8-inch and will serve 15. Folkmoot USA has a dual mission: celebrating a multitude of cultures while championing the realms of arts, education, creative entrepreneurship, and tradition. The genesis of Folkmoot dates back to 1983 when Dr. Clinton Border, a Waynesville surgeon, embarked on a journey with a local square dance team to a folk festival in Sidmouth, England. Dr. Border's conviction solidified during this experience, as he saw Western North Carolina's deep-rooted traditions and commitment to heritage preservation as the perfect backdrop for an international folk festival in the United States. Dr. Border firmly believed that something priceless occurred when cultures steeped in tradition converged to share their lives. The inaugural Folkmoot festival came to life in 1984. In 2003, the North Carolina General Assembly bestowed upon it the honor of being the state's official international festival, known as the North Carolina International Folk Festival. For two decades, the Southeast Tourism Society has consistently recognized Folkmoot USA as one of its top twenty events. Folkmoot USA proudly produces one of the world's largest and longest-running dance festivals, drawing thousands of visitors from across the United States and around the world annually during the last week of July. In keeping with its mission, Folkmoot USA continues to champion cultural diversity, the arts, education, creative entrepreneurship, and tradition. The vision of Folkmoot USA extends to inspiring, informing, and entertaining the community through the seamless integration of arts and education. Each summer, Folkmoot hosts its international festival. Moreover, Folkmoot USA has expanded its scope beyond the festival, now offering year-round programming at its headquarters, housed within the former Hazelwood Elementary School. This facility, known as the Folkmoot Friendship Center, serves as a diverse, inclusive community-based arts organization, offering 10 studio spaces for artists and community organizations. Folkmoot's year-round programming encompasses a bi-annual series of Life Long Learning Classes, an artist-led workshop series, and a calendar featuring 12 annual performances, all of which take place in the 265-seat Queen Auditorium. We as a community are incredibly honored to have Folkmoot. Let's be sure to keep it in our lives.
A note from First Tee of Greater Dallas: We are overjoyed to be part of a community that thrives on helping one another, where lending a hand is a way of life. We receive numerous requests each week to contribute to various causes, and while we’d love to assist every time, it’s not always possible. That’s why we’ve embarked on our very own fundraising initiative: ’52 Cakes.’
52 Cakes - Farm to Cake Fundraiser
Each week, we’ll craft a unique and delightful cake, focusing on either its style or flavor, or both. Then, we’ll auction off that delectable creation. Our commitment is to donate one cake per week, supporting 52 different non-profit organizations, initiatives, and projects right here in Haywood County. Every cent raised will be directed to the cause of the week, and the following week, we’ll select another deserving cause to support.
We want to express our heartfelt appreciation to the platform that manages the bids and collects the funds on our behalf. All the winning bidder needs to do is pick up the cake on Friday morning and savor every bite, knowing they’ve made a difference. If you are out of the area and still want to participate, should you win, we will be happy to help you donate even further by delivering your cake to an organization, business or group in the Waynesville area. Of course, we will be sure to let them know the gift came from you.
The cakes will be finished and posted in social media and here on our website every Thursday morning. You have until 5:00 PM to bid on the cake. The winning bidder will be notified and all they need to do is pickup the cake Friday!
We will list each week’s donation and the cake that earned it here every week.
Thank you immensely for your support of ’52 Cakes.’ Have a fantastic day!”
Item delivery: After you have paid for any auction items that you won, please contact Farm to Cake to arrange pickup. The cake will be available from 10:00 Friday until 4:00. Thank you again for supporting our community!
